2012 Northwoods League Schedule Announced

Realignment Sends Waterloo Bucks to North Division

(ROCHESTER, MN) The Northwoods League has announced the complete schedule for the upcoming 2012 regular season, the League’s 19th season of play. For the third consecutive year the Northwoods League will use a 70-game divisional schedule. All teams will play the other seven teams from their division a total of ten times throughout the season.

The regular season begins on Wednesday, May 30th and concludes on Sunday, August 12th. The first half of the season will be complete at the end of play on Wednesday, July 4th with the second half beginning the following day. The first and second half division winners from both the North and South will meet in a best-of-three Divisional Playoff Series on August 13-15. The North and South Division Champions will then meet in a best-of-three series for the Summer Collegiate World Series on August 16-18.

With the addition of the expansion Lakeshore Chinooks to the South Division and the loss of the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers from the North Division, there will be realignment within the divisions for the first time since Rochester moved from the South to the North in 2007. The Waterloo Bucks, the lone Iowa team in the Northwoods League, have joined Ontario’s Thunder Bay Border Cats and the six Minnesota franchises in the North Division. The South Division now consists of seven Wisconsin franchises and the defending Northwoods League Champions, Michigan’s Battle Creek Bombers.

The Bombers will begin their title defense on May 30th at the Madison Mallards before opening at home on Friday, June 1st against the expansion Lakeshore Chinooks. The Chinooks debut on the road against the Green Bay Bullfrogs on May 30th. The Chinooks first home game at Kapco Park in Mequon, Wisconsin will be on Monday, June 4th against the Eau Claire Express.

The location and date of the 18th Annual Northwoods League All-Star Game is expected to be announced in January. The all-star break is July 23-25.
